6/11/2023 0 Comments Chalk bluff river resort![]() ![]() I guess you could access Lowell Hill through Dutch Flat, up to 20, then mess around up there, then come down 20 to 174? Maybe there is a way through Red Dog or something like that to avoid 20 and 174. I have not been back down on that side for 10 years at least. Beats me if Nevada County ever took it down. ![]() Chalk Bluff Road on the other side leads down to the same spot, but some local installed a BLM gate across the road - illegally. There was a bridge across it at one time but it is gone. ![]() There is a narrow gulch carved out of rock by Steeple Hollow Creek - it drops maybe 30 feet. Out of Dutch Flat I went to Lowell Hill Road and went down to the Steeple Hollow creek crossing. Now PGE has blocked off that entire area. One time I drove down Chicago Powerhouse Road and rode around in the Bear River creekbed - supposedly you could ride across and up Chalk Bluff Road all the way to 20. I have some of the sweetest memories of swimming in the lake, playing kickball, and having my first taste of childhood independence as I walked down to the general store at camp to buy penny candy. My siblings and I would find endless ways to play and entertain ourselves outdoors from sunrise to sunset. Growing up in upstate New York I spent my summers camping at Lake George and hiking through the Adirondack mountains with my family. While I love the sound of my luggage rolling through the airport, there is something nostalgic about packing the car to the brim and going on a road trip that still gets me excited. Summer is here and so is the Texas heat! That means all of us Texans will be looking for places to keep cool, relax, and entertain the little ones while they’re on break from school. You simply can’t pass up the memories you will make in Hill Country! Taking a family journey of about 200 miles to Hill Country may be just what you need to enjoy the various terrains of our great state and connect with nature and each other! It’s a great destination to sample local wines and the river and lakes throughout are simply breathtaking! The hills are alive… with the sound of Texas summer fun! ![]()
